According the discussion in leadership class, It is a process to transmit the faith to other publics for leadership. I think that leadership is driven by passion and authenticity, and spread to others as a contagion. The more the passion grows, the stronger the impact happens, just like a ripple. As the central of the ripple, the personality of the leader determines the ways to influence other people, for instance, including coercive, authoritative, affinitive, democratic, pacesetting, and coaching.
To bring out the influence, it is important to identify our strength and weakness, define our value based on our life experiences, and train ourselves in four capabilities of leadership ( Sensemaking, Relating, Visioning, and Inventing ), develop our own leadership style. Moreover, when we apply our skills of leadership, we may face challenges to lead talent people. In this class, we knew that it is not so easy to lead a talent team because of some mistakes we may make when we manage top talent. However, leadership is a dynamic process, which means we can adjust different ways to meet the problems.
This class inspired me in two concepts. The first idea is to look at my strength, emphasizing to enhance my strength rather than improve my weakness, and the other idea is to keep in neutralized position to lead talent people.
Look at strength rather than weakness
During this class, I learned what kind of leadership style I get used to adopt, and it also reflected something I observed in my work experience. The point that attracts me the most in class is to enhance my strength rather than improve my weakness. It is a new idea for me because I put my attention to make my best effort to improve the weakness, but little to strengthen the advantages. Although it works but I feel depressed when I only look at my weakness.
To create a positive feedback to myself, feedback analysis may become a useful tool to me. I will start my feedback analysis, and review it not merely to know my strength and weakness, but discovery new solutions for the problems I have met. In this case, I can build my confidence from previous experiences, and as well as it helps me to overcome the challenges I will meet in the future.
Keep in neutralized position to lead talent people
I think the managers are hard to keep in neutralized position in conflicts when they have to consider the competition with other projects or functional groups.
How to insist in a neutralized position in internal competition of organization? Maybe the main idea is still related to the capabilities of leadership we talked in class, especially in sensemaking and visioning. The two abilities I think are important but seems deficient for some failed cases I observed. In success cases, those managers did good job. They had the ability to apply the four capabilities to deal with the issue through their own ways.
In this class, I obtained the new ideas to leadership. The business environment becomes more complicated, and the structure of organization changes rapidly, leading such leadership that is no longer the same with the meaning before.
In future career, I expect I can integrate the experience before and the feedback analysis to reframe my leadership styles. It is not only the way to lead a team work, but also the influence to other people to solve problems, and an adjustment to meet the change of environment.
